Mekenzie Bennett
Eleven-year-old Mekenzie Bennett is known around Fairview Elementary School as a wonderful student who possesses an excellent work ethic.
So when it came time to select an Academic All-Star, Mekenzie was at the top of the list.
“Mekenzie always gives her best effort and consistently has her work completed,” said her teachers. “When she doesn’t understand something, she never gives up, and she is the first to volunteer to help a friend who is struggling. Her kind heart and relentless effort never cease to amaze us.”
Mekenzie says she owes much of her success to her teachers who are always there when she needs them.
“They help me a lot,” said Mekenzie. “If I don’t know an answer, I’ll ask them and they will help me until I understand.”
Science is Mekenzie’s favorite subject because it allows her to do fun things with her classmates.
“This year, we made these cars that we had to see which one would stop at the right point,” said Mekenzie. “You could either use a string and weights or a rubber band. We used the rubber band.”
Mekenzie’s love of science may even play a role in her future career.
“I want to be a forensic scientist when I grow up,” said Mekenzie. “I watch the TV show Criminal Minds and it looks pretty cool.”
Outside of school, Mekenzie likes to stay active by playing with friends and practicing sports like softball and cheerleading.
Moving forward, Mekenzie says she’ll continue to work hard when she transitions to middle school in the fall. In the meantime, she’s going to enjoy the sense of satisfaction that comes with being named an Academic All-Star.
“I’m proud of myself,” said Mekenzie. “My teachers motivate me, but I also motivate myself.”
