Saimee Shin
Mill Creek Elementary School fifth grader Saimee Shin is an impressive student with a thirst for knowledge. That’s why it’s no surprise she was chosen as the school’s very first Academic All-Star.
“Saimee puts her all into everything she does,” said Mill Creek teachers Annelise Bradley and Liza Vaughn. “She is a straight A student due to her hard work and desire to learn. She never fails to ask the questions others may be too quiet to ask, and she is always on task.”
Saimee says she really likes being at Mill Creek which opened in the fall.
“I think it’s really neat to start off fresh in a new building,” said Saimee. “Also, the teachers here really try to make learning fun with games and other stuff.”
Although, she’s really good at social studies, Saimee says it’s not her favorite subject.
“Well, I like science because of all the experiments,” said Saimee. “But I like math homework a lot too, so I tend to do more than the teacher asks.”
Outside of school, Saimee enjoys a wide variety of interests which include reading, baking and gymnastics. She’s also excited to join the Mill Creek Middle School cheerleading team next year.
As for a future career, Saimee says she’s keeping her options open.
“There are a lot of things I want to be when I grow up,” she said. “My parents tell me I should be a politician because I got mayor for JA BizTown. I also want to be a doctor because I like to help people.”
According to Saimee’s teachers, her desire to help others can be seen on a regular basis at Mill Creek.
“Saimee is also an incredibly kind person,” said Bradley and Vaughn. “She is welcoming and friendly to every individual and has nothing but kind things to say about others. She is always a friend to those in need. We are proud to recognize her as our Academic All Star.”
